 Scott Investments Ltd (Ex Taylor Smith & Sons)

Scott Investments has been established for over 100 years and has played a prominent role in the Mauritian private sector and today has over USD100 million of assets under management. Our portfolio is comprised of companies operating in various fields which include financial services, distribution & retailing in Mauritius as well as Southern & Eastern African Regions. Additionally, we have exposure to Private Equity and Property investments in Europe. 

Our Investment Philosophy 

We are very active in the management of our companies and have a long-term view with a buy to hold strategy. We believe in capitalizing our investments properly and we ensure a high standard of ethics and corporate governance across all of our companies. Our portfolio has exposure to Mauritian listed as well as non-listed equity that is highly cash generative, with attractive dividends. When investing we look for companies with simple and straight forward business models with scalable opportunity. We generally seek to be majority shareholders of the businesses we acquire.

Scott Investments sells it’s 3.5% stake in New Mauritius Hotels

Cim Financial Services is spun out of the Rogers Group and listed on the Mauritius Stock Exchange (Scott Investments takes a 26% stake in the company)

Scott Investments acquires

Our People

Tim Taylor

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR & CHAIRMAN

Timothy Taylor holds a BA (Hons) in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University. He worked in the United Kingdom until 1972 when he returned to Mauritius and joined Rogers & Co. He became Chief Executive of Rogers in 1999, retiring in December 2006. He was then Non- Executive Chairman of Rogers from 2007 to October 2012.

 

He is the Chairman of Scott & Co, one of Mauritius’ oldest commercial concerns. He is a past Chairman of the National Committee on Corporate Governance and a former President of the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is Honorary Consul of Norway in Mauritius. He has always had an interest in environmental and conservation issues and has been a member of the Council of the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation since 2006 and President since 2009.

Matthew Taylor

 

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Matthew Taylor holds a BSc (Hons) in Retail Management from the University of Surrey. He joined Rogers in 2000 as Project Manager in the Planning and Development Department. He was the Executive Director Retail of Scott & Co from 2007 to January 2013 and is currently the firm’s CEO.

Sebastian Taylor

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND INVESTMENT MANAGER

 

Sebastian Taylor graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor’s degree in Arts majoring in Economics and Politics. He then went onto complete a Master’s in Business degree at Bond University. He started his career at Quilter Cheviot Investment Management in London where he assisted with the management of investment portfolios for private clients, trusts and charities. In 2018, he returned to Mauritius and became Investment Manager for Scott Investments.

Marc Lagesse

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 

Marc Lagesse served as non-executive Director of Hertshten Group from 2008 and subsequently as Chief Executive Officer from January 2012 to August 2017. He brought strong credentials to these roles, having traded futures as a LIFFE floor trader in London for 12 years.

Marc holds a BSc (Hons) from University College in London and a MBA from the London Business School. Returning to Mauritius in late 1996, he worked in the MCB investment management business before being promoted to CEO of MCB Capital Markets in 2006.

Fiona Taylor

NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Fiona Taylor is the Director of Victoria Tackle Ltd, a manufacturing company of artificial fishing lures based in Mauritius with a Sales & Marketing office in the UK. She has been running the company with her husband since 2013. She has previously worked as Marketing & Admissions Manager at Northfields International High School, Direct Sales Manager at Scott & Co Ltd and Sales Manager for the UK & Ireland at Beachcomber Hotels in London. 

 

She obtained her BA in Sociology from the University of York, UK and her MA in Advertising and Marketing from Leeds Business School, UK. She spent 10 years in the UK and returned to Mauritius in 2009.
